A New Adventure for Us - Dave's Bucket List
So after being "off the road" with the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are back with a brand new trip to document. We decided for our first post pandemic travel that we would stay in Canada. Dave used to watch a program called Ice Road Truckers, about truck drivers who drove to Northern Canada in the winter on ice roads over rivers and lakes.
At our age we are not quite that ambitious but the early episodes documented the stories of these truckers travelling on a road called the Dempster Highway. This is the only year round road that goes through the Yukon and Northwest Territories all the way up to the Arctic Ocean.
Barb and I have travelled across our country and have visited every province, but we have never seen the northern territories in Canada. This trip will accomplish that and fulfill Dave's bucket list item to drive the Dempster. It is a 740km shale and gravel road from Dawson City, Yukon to Inuvik, North West Territories and we will add in another 138 km to drive from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk, NWT and dip our feet into the Arctic Ocean.
We will have very little to no cell service and I'm sure limited to no internet, so we will do our best to keep this blog up to date when we can. We don't expect to see many other folks on this journey very little to no traffic so hopefully the tires will hold out and
All bewe up will not be stranded out in the wilderness. I'm sure we will be fine.
The journey begins on June 15th and we hope we can bring a bit of the beauty of the Canadian North to all of you.
Looking forward to tracking your adventures! Hope your windshield holds out as well! Safe travels.
