Edmonton - eventually

So, we are back on the grid and currently sitting in the Whitehorse International Airport.  Our plan was to make an update tonight when we got to Edmonton, but when we arrived here, we were informed that there was a slight delay in our flight.  2 1/2 hours!!!  SLIGHT???    Anyway that is the way travel goes, so rather than making this update tonight at 1am, I'm doing it now.

How was the vacation you ask?  Amazing. Our original booking was at the Mount Logan Lodge and we got to visit this place.  Very nice place, lots of trees and while you could see some mountains, there were a lot of trees around.

The lodge itself is quite the building, and they have some cabins out of the main building as well, including this Yurt.

It would have been a nice place to spend a couple of quiet days, however their building upgrades are still waiting for inspection approval, so we were offered to stay at the Yukon Lakes Cabins with the same owner from the Logan Lodge.  WOW.  Look at our view from this place.

The day before we arrived, a group of wild horses came down for a visit, coming right up to the cabins and around the cars.  The guests who were there from Germany, saw them coming and stayed in their cabins, not really sure about being around them. We saw the pictures they had taken and hoped that they would come back while we were there.

Our host told us of how a grizzly bear was seen walking the beach recently so again, our hopes were up to finally see some real wildlife on this trip.

Guests who arrived shortly after us all said that they saw a black bear on the road coming in, but he wasn't there, or at least we didn't see him when we arrived.

On our second day, we drove down to Haines Junction while others went on a mountain trail trek for the day.  Barb and I were not interested in walking 10KM so we enjoyed our day in the very small town.

There were sights to see, historic buildings and we got a lot of information in the visitor centre while we were there.

On the drive down and back we kept our eyes open looking for wildlife... still no luck.  Actually we did see a couple of chipmunks and gophers at the lodge.

The meals by our host Roxanne, were very very good, nice home cooked meals. The other guest here during our stay was a single traveller from New Brunswick, the couple from Germany and another couple from Gatineau, Quebec.  It was nice to be with all of them, sharing stories of our days' adventures, telling tales of our past experiences and enjoying each others company.

The weather was hot during the day it was cooler at night but we didn't need any heat in our little cabin and we were quite comfortable sleeping.

This morning, we woke to another awesome breakfast and packed up to head back to Whitehorse and the airport.  The horses never did return, and we didn't see any bears either.  However today on our drive out of the cabins, on their little dirt road it happened.  We spotted a large brown something on the road ahead.

Barb slowed our vehicle so we wouldn't scare it away and as we got closer, we got more excited as I said that I think it is a moose.  No antlers, so it had to be a female.   Closer we approach and now I realize that it is actually walking our way.  VERY EXCITING!!

Closer, closer it came, we are now stopped.  Look at these amazing pictures.

Imagine, two old city people getting so excited to see a wild...... COW!

Anyway we enjoyed our time there, the scenery, quite peaceful area was a great two day break.

Tomorrow when we eventually get into Edmonton, we will pick up yet another car and take a trip to British Columbia for a short visit with a friend of Barb's.  We are so close to Tumbler Ridge, (7 hours away) that we had to drop in to spend a day.  We have to be back in Edmonton by June 30th, which will end our trip and our blog.  At that time will will attend the Master Bowlers' Association of Canada National 5 Pin Bowling Championships.

We will update everyone again on how things work out and what we see in Tumbler Ridge.

  1. Hopefully you can see some wildlife. Highway 52 you can see black bears, moose, elk, deers and if you are lucky a griz. I will try my best to find the wildlife while you are here.❤️ Paula
